Indian Railways have introduced an SMS campaign to make the people aware about the possible danger of mishaps at unmanned level crossings. In In the country, there are 35,363 level crossings in the railway network, out of which 17,954 are unmanned.

The text messages in Hindi and English are educative in nature, which appeals to the road users, drivers of buses and tractors and other users of the unmanned level crossings to take adequate precaution while negotiating them to avoid danger.

Digvijay Singh, Former union minister and Lok Sabha MP from Bihar, passed away in a hospital in London. He was 54, survived by his wife Putul Kumari and two daughters. He was a former Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader, won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Banka constituency as an independent candidate.
In the 13th Lok Sabh in 1999, he also served as minister of state for Railways, Commerce and Industry and external affairs in the National Democratic Alliance government of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Auto strike in Mumbai backed by various auto unions in Mumbai ended following an assurance from Maharashtra Transport Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil that all other legitimate demands of the

Inflation rose to 10.16 percent in May from 9.59 percent in April due to elevated food prices and certain manufactured items like metals turning expensive. The essential items which have become expensive, directly hitting the pocket of the common man, include pulses, vegetables and sugar.
The prices of metal, textiles and plywood prices have also gone up, as inflation has spread to non-food items.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said last month that inflation would moderate to 5-6 percent by December. And now the situation is getting more and more worse . Rising inflation may prompt the Reserve Bank to tighten money supply at its first quarterly review of the monetary policy due on 27th July.
