Wasim Akram's wife Huma, who was suffering from a unknown fever, died at a hospital in Chennai Apollo hospital.
She was admitted to the hospital on October 20 after developing in critical condition when an air ambulance flying her to Singapore from Lahore halted at the city airport for scheduled refueling of the airplane. She was rushed to the hospital but her condition never improved.
The disease was completely unknown to doctors.

At least 15 people died and 25 people have injured in a train crash near Mathura. The train accident occurred when the Goa Express crashed into the stationary Mewar Express from the back. Primarily it was identified as the fault of the driver of the Goa Express.

The Chhath festival dedicated to Surya, the chief solar deity, unique to Bihar, Jharkhand and the Terai. This major festival is also celebrated in the northeast region of India, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Chhattisgarh. Even in Tamil Nadu, the migrants from the north celebrate Chaat beside the sea beach. However it is not clear why is it needed to be celebrated near sea. Hymns praying to the sun can be found in the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism.
It is celebrated twice a year, once in the summers (May-July), called the Chaiti Chhath, and once in the winter (September-November) around a week after Deepawali, called the Kartik Chhath. The latter is more popular because winters are the usual festive season in North India, and Chhath, being an arduous observance, requiring the worshippers to fast without water for more than 24 hours, is easier to undertake in the Indian winters.

The Chevrolet Cruze was launched in the Chinese market on April 18, 2009. The China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) awarded the Cruze a maximum five stars in their independent crash safety test. The Cruze 1.6 liter SE tested scored a maximum of 16 points in side-impact collision, scored 14.44 in front-end collision, and 15.73 points in the 40% frontal offset collision. During July 2009, the Cruze became available in Malaysia with the 1.6 and a 1.8 litre engines. To be manufactured at General Motors (GM) India's Halol factory, GM of India will release the Cruze into the Indian market on 12 October 2009.
The Chevrolet Cruze is expected to come in two variants, manual and automatic, but only with the diesel engine, lifted from the Captiva. The car would have more than 50% localisation and will be rolled out from its Halol facility in the Indian state of Gujarat.

It will be available with 3 engines – a 112hp 1.6 liter unit, a 140hp 1.8 liter unit with variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust, and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel putting out 150 horses and 320Nm of torque. Chevrolet will equip the car with a 6-speed automatic transmission, a first for Chevrolet in the compact segment and more gears than what most car manufacturers put in their non-luxury C-segment cars (most have 4-speed, Honda has 5, and VW uses 6-speeders).

Scientists Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath have won this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry, announced in Stockholm by Noble committee.
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is a US citizen who was born in Tamil Nadu, India. He is 57 year old and is a PhD holder in Physics from the Ohio University in USA.
He is also a senior scientist and group leader at Structural Studies Division MRC Laborartory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge.

Karwa Chauth is celebrated on the chaturthi tithi after the full Moon in the month of kartik in the Hindu calendar. According to the religious scriptures like Dharma sindhu, Nirnay sindhu and other shastra that governs rules of when to observe festival says, “Karwa Chauth to be observed at moonrise (chandrodaya vyapini) and poorvaviddha, best if its tritiya viddha. Karwa means clay pot and chauth means fourth night after the full moon. It has great social and cultural significance and is mostly practiced in northern India.
Married women start their fast at night just after the appearance of the moon, within sight of their husbands. They then wait until the next night's moon to begin the fast breaking ceremonies, without consuming any food or drink. In the evening women dress in their best clothing, and adorn themselves with jewellery and henna ( Karwa Chauth Mehndi designs ). On sighting the moon, they look and offer prayers and worship to it, and then receive their first bite of food and water from their husbands. Thereafter, women consume their special meal prepared for the occasion.
Worshipping the moon involves filling up the karwa with specially prepared food and jewellery and offering it to the god. Karwas are also exchanged with other women after that. Further practices involve telling and listening to stories regarding origin of Karwa Chauth.
There are variations within regions, groups, and communities in India about rituals of starting and breaking the fast, and worshipping the moon. In Punjab, for example, women start their fast by consuming food called sergi sent or given by her mother-in-law before the dawn. The fast breaking ceremony involves looking at the moon through a sieve, and then looking at her husband's face. They often close their eyes in the process and do not see anyone but their husbands just after seeing the moon. In other parts of India, there is no provision of sergi.

Three districts , Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda is worse affected by the flood in Andhra. State Government arranged all necessary flood relief and rescue efforts with the help of a group of army personnel. Over five lakh people have been evacuated in this massive flood. Massive rescue and relief operation are being organised in the flood affected areas with seven helicopters, huge group of army personnel and personnel of National Disaster Response Force, and more than 100 boats.
The good news is lakhs of food and water sachets and other relief material are being distributed to the flood victims in all the districts.
